Volunteers bring a love for the cause, dedication, opportunities for growth, friendship, talent, shared experiences, a piece of their heart, and most importantly an extra set of hands. The passion our volunteers share for UMAR expands our ability to offer services, provide for our participants, and make an indelible impact in the community.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once wrote, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
HERE ARE A FEW WAYS YOU CAN DO FOR OTHERS:
EVENT VOLUNTEER
Help make UMAR events a success! You’ll assist with events such as Annual Golf Tournament, Winston-Salem Luncheon, Greensboro Luncheon, Charlotte Luncheon, Resident In Need, and more.
HOME PROJECT VOLUNTEER
Help provide activities or physical projects for one of our 19 residential locations. Activities include dances, game nights, meals, craft projects, and more. Physical projects include painting, landscaping, renovations, clean up, and more.
ARTS CENTER VOLUNTEER
Help encourage creativity and self-expression at UMAR Arts centers in Charlotte, Lincolnton, and Reidsville.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH VOLUNTEER
Help represent UMAR in your community. Share information about UMAR with your sphere of influence (business, faith, & social networks). Recruit volunteers, sponsors, or participants for special events. Organize a fundraising drive for UMAR.

Volunteerism is key to the ongoing success of UMAR. As part of our annual reporting process, it is important to track the number of hours each volunteer is serving. Please use the following form to log your volunteer hours.

*To ensure your safety and the safety of the UMAR residents, employees, board and friends, a complete criminal background check will be performed on all individual volunteers. Training and support will be offered to provide the best volunteer experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding our policies and procedures. All information provided on this document will be kept confidential and will be used for the purpose of determining suitable volunteer placement. Unless otherwise noted, photographs may be taken and used in UMAR publications. Any private information obtained by the volunteer group or individual while in the service to UMAR should be treated as confidential and not shared with outside sources.
